The single biggest upgrade most people can make is simple: stop asking one-shot questions and start treating it like a conversation. If the first answer isn't quite right, say specifically what's wrong instead of starting over — "make this shorter," "this is too formal," "give me three more examples."

For homework: use it to explain a concept you're stuck on or check your own reasoning, not to write the answer for you wholesale — the goal is understanding, not just a submitted assignment. For writing: it's strongest as a drafting and editing partner, not a first-draft-to-final pipeline without your own review. For research: it's a fast way to get oriented on a topic, but always verify specific facts, statistics, and citations independently — it can state something confidently and incorrectly.

Treat anything it tells you as a confident-sounding draft to verify, not a guaranteed fact, especially for anything specific like statistics, dates, or citations. And remember that what you type isn't private the way a conversation with a person is — don't paste in anything you wouldn't want stored.
